Record Label: Heavenly

Release Date: January 25th, 2010

Debut Album

Erland Cooper, guitar & vocals, is from of all unlikely places, Orkney, Scotland. He is joined by Simon Tong, Multiinstrumentalist ('The Verve', 'Blur' & 'The Good, The Bad & The Queen') and David Nock, Drummer/Engineer ('The Orb', 'The Cult' & 'The Fireman). Andy Bruce joins in the studio on keyboards and Danny Wheeler on Bass.

I would best describe them as folk rock, however there is a uniqueness that makes this description fall short of the mark. Their music is a re-working of traditional british folk songs, tales and poetry. They are given a modern slant with up to date stories set against or re-interpreted through them. 'Disturbed This Morning' is a re-do of Leonard Cohen's original. It is a weird and strange mixture presented in an accessible way with pop thrown into the mix. 60's styled folk influences show throughout the album as well as psychedelic tinges. 'My Name Is A Carnival' is from where the band name is drawn and is a cover of the 60's folk artist Jackson C Frank. As you listen to this album you find the Wurlitzer swirls give an overall Doors feel to the music. Classic album? No. Great debut worth a listen? Absolutely!

Erland & The Carnival are currently touring Britain and Europe.
